The Global Association of MSMEs (GAMSME) delegation, led by its Board Members including Shri Abhijit Sharma, Shri Shyamendra Singh, Dr Gaurav Jain and fellow members, met Shri Kapil Meena, Managing Director, National Horticulture Board, for a meaningful discussion on strengthening horticulture-focused Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs) and Farmer Producer Companies (FPCs).
The discussion focused on the immense potential of India’s horticulture-based FPOs and FPCs to evolve from grassroots farmer collectives into bankable, investment-ready MSMEs with the right institutional, technical and financial support.
During the meeting, the delegation explored key areas that can accelerate this transformation, including value addition in horticulture, nursery strengthening, cold chain development, innovation, technology adoption and enterprise-readiness for rural producer groups.
A major focus of the conversation was on enabling farmers to capture greater value from their produce through improved processing, aggregation, market linkage and formal enterprise development. Strengthening nurseries was also discussed as an important foundation for ensuring quality planting material and building more resilient horticulture supply chains.
The delegation also highlighted the importance of cold chain infrastructure in reducing post-harvest losses and improving access to wider and higher-value markets. Alongside this, innovation and technology were discussed as key enablers for helping rural enterprises scale, compete and become future-ready.
The meeting reflected a strong alignment of vision between GAMSME and the National Horticulture Board. By professionalising horticulture-led value chains and making them finance-ready, FPOs and FPCs can play a stronger role in improving farmer incomes, creating rural employment and strengthening local economies.
GAMSME expressed its gratitude to Shri Kapil Meena for his time, openness and leadership in supporting the growth of India’s horticulture sector. The association looks forward to working closely with the National Horticulture Board to support horticulture FPOs and FPCs in becoming stronger participants in the MSME ecosystem.
This engagement marks an important step towards building a stronger bridge between farming communities, horticulture value chains and formal enterprise development. It also reflects GAMSME’s continued commitment to supporting rural producer groups in their journey from farm-based collectives to structured, scalable and finance-ready enterprises.
