GAMSME Explores Community Enterprise and Conservation Opportunities in Madhya Pradesh

Full Story

The Global Association of MSMEs (GAMSME) recently called on Shri Shubhranjan Sen (IFS), Principal Chief Conservator of Forests and Head of Forest Force, Madhya Pradesh, to explore opportunities for sustainable community livelihoods and enterprise development.

The discussion focused on communities living around forest reserves and wildlife sanctuaries, particularly tribal and forest-fringe communities whose lives and livelihoods are closely connected to their natural surroundings.

GAMSME shared its vision of developing responsible enterprise opportunities in areas such as forest produce, value-added processing, eco-tourism, traditional crafts and other locally rooted activities. Such enterprises can create sustainable income opportunities while building on local knowledge and resources.

The conversation also highlighted the connection between livelihoods and conservation. Strengthening economic opportunities for forest-fringe communities can help reduce pressures that contribute to human-wildlife conflict while encouraging greater community participation in conservation.

GAMSME believes that enterprise and ecology can work hand in hand. With the right approach, community-led businesses can create economic value while supporting the protection of forests, wildlife and local ecosystems.

The meeting brought together a shared perspective on enterprise, ecology and coexistence. GAMSME expressed its gratitude to Shri Shubhranjan Sen for the warm interaction, encouragement and openness towards exploring these opportunities.

The courtesy visit marks another step towards GAMSME’s vision of promoting inclusive and sustainable enterprise development, with further initiatives and developments to be shared in due course.
